It's a dirty little secret until you start chatting on gay.com

Have you heard about Jim West, the Republican mayor of Spokane? Even if you haven't, you should find this refrain rather familiar. Republican mayor of small conservative city pushes anti-gay agenda, loves the family values, etc., loves 'em so much that as a legislator he initiated legislation that would ban sexual contact between consenting teenagers, ban gays and lesbians from working in schools, day care, etc., was General Asshole when it came to nondiscrimination laws in the state, etc.

Well, guess what...yes, you don't need me to say it: he's a fag.

What's weird about this story is how he was outed. The Spokesman-Review investigated him for three years, and had a computer tech person at the paper pose as an 18 year old on gay.com.

Somehow, Big Brass Blog has the transcripts:

Oh, if only, Jim. Makes me wanna go j/o. Loving it because how many twinks on gay.com are really newspaper techies trying to catch the Ray Cohns of the country? And are they all little budding therapists who heal as they snare? I think it's great. I'm so damn sick of real people these days and I'd much rather talk to some persona all fabricated and done up like a doll. Reminds me of an essay I wrote about gay.com once.
